Biathlon - Find Your Focus

Endurance. Precision. Concentration. Two very different skills, one extraordinary challenge.

Imagine skiing across a snowy course, breathing hard as you approach the shooting range. You stop, steady yourself and concentrate on a tiny target. A moment later, you are back on your skis, racing towards the next challenge. This is biathlon.

Biathlon combines cross-country skiing with rifle shooting. Athletes must manage their energy on the course and stay calm and accurate at the shooting range. Speed matters, but so does the ability to focus when your heart is beating fast.

It is a sport of contrasts: movement and stillness, effort and control, determination and patience. That balance makes every race exciting right up to the finish.

Each format brings a different rhythm to skiing and shooting.

Fast Skiing. Steady Aim.

In the 7.5km Sprint, athletes race against the clock, alternating skiing with shooting. A missed target means extra distance on a penalty loop, so each visit to the range can change the race.

What to watch for: The transition from fast skiing to calm shooting, and how quickly athletes return to the course.

Patience Makes the Difference.

The 12.5km Individual event rewards both endurance and accuracy. Athletes face multiple shooting stages, and missed targets add penalty time to the result. Choosing when to push harder and when to regain control is essential.

What to watch for: Careful pacing, consistent shooting and the way the standings can change as penalties are counted.

Two Athletes. One Team.

In the 6km Girls + 7.5km Boys Single Mixed Relay, a girl and a boy combine their performances for one team result. Each athlete has a role to play, and every shooting stage and changeover adds to the excitement.

What to watch for: Teamwork, quick changeovers and teammates encouraging one another throughout the race.

Every Leg Counts.

Four teammates each complete a 6km leg, bringing together skiing, shooting and shared responsibility. Strong individual performances matter, but the team's combined effort decides the outcome.

What to watch for: Changes in the lead, shooting under pressure and the excitement of the final leg.

Quick Decisions. Clear Focus.

The 6km Sprint is a compact race that still demands endurance, technique and accurate shooting. Even a brief lapse in concentration can mean extra time on the course through a penalty loop.

What to watch for: Fast skiing between shooting stages and the balance between speed and precision.

Stay Strong. Stay Accurate.

The 10km Individual format challenges athletes to maintain their skiing technique and concentration over the distance. Shooting accuracy is especially important, because missed targets add time penalties.

What to watch for: Endurance, rhythm and how accurate shooting can reward a well-managed race.
