Figure Skating - Where Sport Meets Expression

Grace. Strength. Creativity. Every movement tells a story on the ice.

The music begins. A skater glides across the ice, builds speed and launches into a jump. Moments later, a flowing sequence of steps and spins transforms the rink into a stage. Figure skating is both athletic performance and artistic expression.

Behind the elegance are demanding skills: powerful take-offs, carefully controlled landings, flexibility, balance and precise timing. Skaters combine technical elements with choreography and musical interpretation to create a complete performance.

It is a sport that invites young people to discover what practice and imagination can achieve together — and how movement can become a way to express themselves.

Make Every Element Count.

The Short Program is a compact performance in which skaters present required technical elements within a choreographed routine. Jumps, spins and footwork need accuracy, while the athlete also connects the movements to the music.

What to watch for: Clean landings, controlled spins, precise steps and the connection between skating and music.

More Time to Tell a Story.

The Free Program gives skaters a longer opportunity to combine jumps, spins, steps and expressive choreography. It tests stamina as well as technique: athletes must maintain control and performance quality from the first movement to the final pose.

What to watch for: The variety of technical elements, musical interpretation and the ability to sustain energy until the end.
