Short Track - Fast Ice. Faster Decisions.

Speed. Strategy. Split-second reactions. Racing where every corner matters.

Picture several skaters racing close together around a small oval rink. They lean sharply into the bends, look for an opening and accelerate towards the next straight. Positions can change in seconds. This is short track speed skating.

Short track combines explosive power, balance, precise cornering and race awareness. Athletes skate in close company, so choosing when to move, where to position themselves and how to maintain control is part of the excitement.

It is thrilling for spectators and rewarding for young athletes who love speed, quick thinking and learning to trust their technique under pressure.

Explosive Starts. Close Finishes.

The 500m is a short, high-intensity race where a strong start and sharp acceleration can make all the difference. Skaters must maintain speed through tight corners while reacting to competitors nearby.

What to watch for: The start, positioning through the bends and the final sprint to the line.

Speed Meets Strategy.

Over 1000m, racers need both pace and race awareness. Athletes choose when to accelerate, where to find space and how to keep momentum without losing control in the corners.

What to watch for: Changes in position, smart overtaking moves and the acceleration in the closing laps.

Think Ahead. Finish Strong.

The 1500m brings an added tactical dimension. Skaters manage their energy over more laps, read the movements of other competitors and look for the right moment to make a decisive move.

What to watch for: The race pace, positioning within the group and the changes of speed towards the finish.
